音像實驗計劃(avLab)| 2014~ | Audio Visual
音像實驗計劃是為期二年的創作專案(2014~2015),計畫預計產出30個不同鏈結關係的音像實驗,計劃中的程式皆由開源軟體PureData撰寫而成。

開始這個計畫的原因源自音樂「練習曲」(Étude)的概念,練習曲是一種為樂器演奏的技術訓練而寫的樂曲,常有特定的技術上的目的。鋼琴家蕭邦之後更是賦予「練習曲」更多的意義,讓「練習曲」除了是技巧上運用外,更俱備藝術意涵。對我來說寫程式的過程就如同練習曲,過往的美術背景讓我學會用素描來探索自己,然而跨領域到數位藝術上之後,雖說作品總是圍繞在聲音跟影像上的結合,然而不管是對科技的無知或是對音樂的疏離,內心其實時常感到恐懼。但這也形成我創作的動力,透過將生活經驗、新知識跟作品結合,成為安定自己的方法,並期待會是另一種新創造的產生。在這計畫中,我將每一個最初的想法用最簡單的方法描述出來,這計畫可以說是我的完成作品之前的草稿,更可想像成這是我對科技、聲音、影像、自我探索的日記。

Audiovisual experiment plan is digital artist Aluan Wang`s two year creative project. Between 2014 and 2015, he plans to produce approximately 30 audiovisual experiments, each demonstrating different relations between sound and image. His creative tool for the project is open-source software, Pure data.

The project was originated from the idea of Étude. Étude is a piece of music composed for the technical training of instrument playing, often focusing on specific techniques. After Chopin, Étude has been given more meanings. Besides the use of different techniques, Étude has artistic meanings. For me, the process of writing programs is like anÉtude. My background in art helps me learn to explore myself through sketching. However, after turning to digital art, my works focus more on the combination of audio and video. I often feel quite anxious about my ignorance to technology and my alienation from music. Yet this also motivates my creation. Through the combination of life experience, new knowledge, and works, I find ways to comfort myself and expect possibilities to make new creation. In this project, I try to describe each of my initial thoughts in the simplest way. Each experiment can be a draft before a major work, or a diary of my exploration of technology, audio and video.






域的擴展(Expending) | 2013 | Audio Visual

「域的擴張」演出過程中,藝術家不停的在螢幕中繪製各種幾何圖形,並透過後端的程式,讓每個點的座標對應成相應的聲響。繪製過程遵守尺規作圖的方法,當對稱的幾何造型兩弦長成簡單整數比時,音階便會構成有趣的和諧旋律。

During the performance of Expending, the artist continuously draws various geometric patterns on the screen. Through the program at the rear end, the coordinate of each point correspond to a corresponding sound. The drawing is made according to the method of geometric construction. When the both chords of the symmetrical geometric pattern become simple integer ratio, the musical scale will perform interesting and harmonious melodies.





動態中心(Dynamized Center)| 2012 | Audio Visual

作品「動態中心」中,作者試圖模擬如同光線般從中心點往外擴散的結構,並讓核心與支點的距離、方向都是動態不停地的流動平衡,這結構就如同藝術家想與觀眾保持的狀態,讓觀賞者可以任意的找到切入角度。作品的看似模糊卻直指核心的視覺,讓觀眾每一次的感受到的瞬間,都是自行想像的開始。在這件即時互動的AudioVisual(數位音像)作品裡,作者利用自定界面去控制核心的各項參數,讓所有的物體依附著核心點擺動,所有的視覺運動行為都會被程式即時解讀,最終反應在聲響上。

In Dynamized Center,artist attempts to simulate light-like structure which spreads out from the center while the distance and directions between the core and the pivots are continuously and dynamically flowing to make balance. This structure is like the status the artist wants to maintain with the viewer. The viewer can find a perspective to watch the work at will.
The seemingly blurring but actually pointing to the core vision in the work stimulates the viewer's imagination every time (s)he watches the work.








移動中的共鳴(Moving Resonance)| 2011 | Audio Visual

「移動中的共鳴」是一件由三套自定的演算法所組成的數位音像作品,分別為〈自體的分裂〉、〈存在的選擇〉、及〈流動的身體〉三部曲,系列作品的靈感源自生命經驗累積,三個段落不同的演算法,也可以看作者生活中的處事態度。系列作品中重複運用類似「遞迴」的演算法,遞迴的特性是:函數可呼叫函數本身,所以「變數」能夠一直被反覆處理堆疊。這概念可以被對照《移動中的共鳴》中對生命的體認,人們遇到問題時總是從過往經驗出發,然後判斷做出決定。每個判斷都是過往生命經驗的累積,最後的結果都可以回溯回原本的出發點。

《Moving Resonance》is an audio-visual trilogy based on 3 sets of algorithms, including〈Self Deconstruction〉,〈Choice of Life〉and〈Deformation Body〉. The series is inspired by the artist’s life experiences, and it reflects the artist’s attitude towards life. “Recursion” is repeatedly used in the series, when a function calls itself, the “variables” can be operated and stacked over and over again. The method is to express the central idea of《Moving Resonance》, which is life realization. When we run into problems, we usually try to solve them based on our past experiences. Every decision we make comes from our life experiences, and the result can always be traced back to its starting point.






幻象中的歷史現場(The Mirage of History| 2015 | A/V installation
歷史被口述或文字記載,任何隻字片語,都是還原、重建現場的基石。在幻像中的歷史現場作品中,作者透過不同的關鍵字組合,讓電腦隨機排序,採集、取樣了2014年太陽花學運期間,民眾佔領行政院的錄音及攝影。並將相關資料,以顆粒合成手法重組,再製的音波會生成對應的影像,影像及聲音在演算法的影響下互相拉扯,影響了原本被閱讀的方式。本來就無法釐清真相的瘋狂之夜,在本作品中更顯得撲朔迷離。

Both verbal communication and the written form can be vehicles to represent the history. In <The Mirage of History>, the art creator gathered and selected the image and film regarding people occupying Executive Yuan in 2014 Sunflower Movement from internet via key words search and random sort. The raw materials are reconstructed by granular synthesis. The reconstructed sounds produces corresponding images and the sounds and images leverages each other by the influence of algorithm. The authentic interpretation was affected and the disturbing part of the controversial truth about the night is intensified in the work.
